Captive foundry for casting flexibility

We’ve operated our specialty iron foundry since 1954. A dedicated foundry and pattern shop offers the flexibility to change casting designs for improved manufacturability and performance.

We continue to invest in new engineering and product development technologies, working with customers on rapid prototyping and sand molding. These investments let us move faster from concept to high-quality cast part, with complete control of quality and cost.

Steele foundry resources include:

  • Castings from 5 kilograms up to 5,000 kilograms
  • Casting grey iron, ductile iron, austempered ductile iron and white iron
  • Six induction furnaces

Machine shop and fabrication for large machinery production

Steele machining operations are designed for the unique requirements of producing our large machines. We use various CNC machining centers — horizontal boring mills, vertical mills and vertical lathes for machining cast iron or fabricated steel parts up to five metric tons (11,000 lbs.).

We machine shafts seven meters (22 feet) long and use electric discharge machines (EDM) for detailed machining of white iron.

Machine assembly for quality control

We assemble all Steele machinery in-house. Our specialists ensure that each machine is assembled correctly and thoroughly tested to ensure specified performance and a long service life.

This commitment to building rugged, durable machines (and providing the parts and service to keep them running) is why you can find Steele machines in operation worldwide, in service for over 50 years and still delivering a consistent, reliable product.

We test all machines before shipping to document proper performance and check for gear and bearing noises, oil leaks or other problems.
